N.D. Tiwari, a veteran statesman and a leading political figure, has served the country for nearly seven decades. Fired by the ideals of Mahatama Gandhi and Jawahar Lal Nehru. He participated in the 1942 Quit India Movement at the young age of 17 years and remained in jail for nearly two years. Later he became a fearless student leader. He joined the socialist movement in 1946 under the guidance of Acharya Narendra Dev and Jaya Prakash Narayan. In the first general election of India in 1952 he became the youngest MLA of U.P. Assembly. Later he joined the Congress Party. He has been a member of both houses of Parliament. His stature in politics rose rapidly.
